My name is Calvin Luck, and for over 30 years I have taught drill and showband, pouring my time and heart into music, precision, and mentoring young people. Recently, my life was upended. I lost both of my parents, and not long after, I lost my place to live. I am working to stand on my own feet again, but the realities of housing and basic costs are more than I can manage alone. I’m starting this fundraiser so I can secure safe housing and keep serving the community that has meant so much to me.
These past months have been a blur of grief, logistics, and trying to keep moving. Music has always been where I show up—early mornings on the field, long evenings in the band room, teaching count by count until a routine comes alive. I want to continue doing that work, but right now I need the stability of a place to call home. Without housing, it’s difficult to keep reliable hours, take care of my health, and stay consistent for the students who depend on me.
Your support will go directly to the essentials that restore that stability: (1) housing costs—security deposit, first month’s rent, and utility set-up so I can move into a modest, safe space; (2) transportation to rehearsals, schools, and community events; (3) basic necessities like food, toiletries, and a phone plan so I remain reachable for work; and (4) replacement of a few teaching essentials (binders, metronomes, inexpensive practice equipment) so I can keep coaching without interruption. If generosity allows us to go beyond these priorities, additional funds will help cover past-due bills that followed the loss of housing, so this crisis doesn’t keep me from moving forward.
